ID Released For Man Killed In Fiery New Rochelle One-Car Crash

A New Rochelle man who died in a fiery car crash over the weekend has been identified.

Robert Hopkins, 49, a passenger in a car that hit a utility pole and caught fire around 10 p.m. Saturday on Pinebrook Boulevard, died at the scene.

Hopkins, who attended Archbishop Stepinac High School and Iona College, worked as a vice president and senior project executive for American Express and IBM. He also was an avid golfer, and wine connoisseur who loved to entertain.

He is survived by his wife, Una; children, R. Connor and Caitlyn; mother, Joan Hopkins; siblings, Rich, Peg, Jim, Ed, Bill and Gene, and their spouses; his mother-in-law Liz O'Connell, sisters-in-law Kim and Olivia, brother-in-law Jonny, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, John Hopkins, father-in-law Johnny O’Connell, and niece and god-daughter Courtney O’Connell.

The family will host a wake from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27 at Lloyd Maxcy's Funeral Home, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle. The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday , June 28 at Holy Family Parish, 83 Clove Road, New Rochelle. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W. Stevens Ave., Hawthorne.
